The Bird and The Bee

I'm not ashamed to admit that I love The Vampire Diaries.  The TV show, not the books.  The books are horrendous.  I don't say that lightly either because it's been my experience that books are nearly always better than movies/television adaptations.

A couple of weeks ago, I heard a song that I recognized.  A Hall & Oates song.  Maneater.  Except it was being sung by a woman with a beautiful voice.  A quick Google search lead me to The Bird and The Bee.  This chick's voice is amazing.  They have a whole tribute album of Hall & Oates songs!  Plus many other songs that are just as wonderful!

Mad Men Fashion

I recently discovered Mad Men on Netflix.  I know I am behind the times.  In classic "I just found this TV series on Netflix" fashion, I watched all available episodes in a little over a week.

Anyway, that's not really my point.  I have always felt I was born in the wrong era.  Seeing this show, I fell in love with the costumes!  Love, love, love!

I would wear these dresses.  I wish I could wear these dresses as well as these ladies do though!  In fact, I went on a Pinterest pinning spree looking for patterns.

Look how skinny these chicks waists are and how sizes have been skewed over the years!  I've never tried to sew anything of this size before.  Challenge accepted!  Now to find some vintage or vintage looking fabric.

P.S.  A few years ago I found a bunch of old photos.  This one is of my Dad and his first wife.  OMG... he's Don Draper.

Off the Mark - Oscars 2013

While I thought there were a ton of beautifully dressed individuals on the Red Carpet last night, there were a couple that just didn't do it for me.

I really don't know what to say.  I'm just not a fan.

One word:  Yikes!

Who do you think missed the mark on fashion?

My Pick for Best Dressed - Oscars 2013

I don't usually watch the Oscars.  Too much blah, blah in between the actual awards.

But this year I watched.  And I liked it.

I'm not a Family Guy fan.  At all.  But I loved Seth McFarland!  He was funny and not too insulting.  Sometimes he did seem a bit lost, but I'd give him a solid B+.

I watched the pre-show and honestly wasn't sure I had a favorite best dressed.  There were so many that got it right!  Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lawrence... I could go on.

BUT... I fell in love with Zoe Saldana's Alexis Mabille dress.

The color, the style, the shoes!  It's very flattering, elegant, and beautiful!

Who were your favoites?

What the.. ?!?

I was doing my weekly grocery shopping this morning when I saw this gem of a "cake" while waiting for some DEEP FRIED turkey (I had no idea Butterball made this and I know it's a heart attack waiting to happen... and yes, I ate some anyway.) to be sliced in the deli.

Someone must have been practicing with the cupcake air gun or something.  It doesn't even look appetizing. Who wants to make bets this will be on the reduced price rack by the middle of next week?

Bueller? Bueller?

I have royally neglected this blog lately.

I apologize.

Like a million times.

I hope to have HUGE news to share soon.  And it's killing me to not talk about it.

I was also hoping to make a fresh start on tons of things this year.  Here we have arrived at the end of February ALREADY and I'm still hoping to make those starts soon.

Gotta make it happen.  Can't do that by sitting here on this computer.

Google vs. Bing

I'm sure you've all seen the Bing commercial that has people comparing search results.  How seemingly everyone chooses Bing.

I'm a Google user.  I abuse what Google has to offer.  I have a Google Blogger blog, use Gmail, Google Reader, Google Calendar.  My internet browser?  Google Chrome.  I even have Chrome on my phone.  Which is an Android so I also use the Google Play store.

So I went to the Bing It On site to do my own research.

Results on a search for a campground
You do five searches and choose which of the two side-by-side comparisons you prefer.  I chose the result on the left which was most like what I was used to seeing on my Google search.

Now here is what an actual search on Bing looks like:

Here is what an actual search on Google looks like:

According to the Bing results,  I did chose Google on this search.

Second search was on Chattanooga.

Again I chose the result on the left because it looked most like what I would see on a Google search.  According to the Bing It On site, the left was Bing results.

Actual Bing results:

Not too bad actually, but I don't like the Social Results on the right sidebar.  I have a real problem with EVERYTHING being linked to Facebook.  I avoid it as much as I can.

Actual Google results:

This is nice, this is clean.  Easy to navigate.  But honestly, not that much different from the other result.

Ok, let's try something simple.  Dogs.

Bing It On results.  I chose the image on the left.  Which, according to Bing It On, was Bing.  Making that lack luster result on the right, Google.  Supposedly.

Here is an actual Google search result:

I did the same thing with a search on cats.  The results looked nearly identical to the Bing It On search of dogs.  Again, according to Bing, I chose Bing over Google.  Except when I did a search through Google, I got results that looked nothing like the Bing It On results for Google.

Why do businesses over exaggerate themselves?  Do they not think that people will do research for themselves?  Moral of this story is that I'll continue to use Google.  As a bonus, did you know that Google offers an Earth friendly search engine called Earthle?  You can learn more about this service by clicking here.

Do you use Google?
