Shades of Autumn {Red}

Alrighty!  This week we're lookin' at RED!  Not much red going on around here.  Our Dogwood tree has these cute little red berries, but as far as Fall foliage goes, that's about all I had to work with at home.  Where was I going to find red??  Hobby Lobby of course!!  I did get several people looking at me oddly while I was wandering around the store, camera at the ready.  I just pretended like I was getting ideas for decorating a room in my house.  I said ridiculous things like, "Ooo... this will look great here or here."

With all these colors every week I kind of feel like Picasso going through his blue period.  This week I'm going through a square/red period.  I like cropping photos to a square.  I have no idea why, but I think it's just aesthetically pleasing.

Winning by Pinning

I haven't seen my husband in a couple of days.  Mainly because his face has been glued to his new iPhone.  If I'm being honest here, mine has been too.  We love these things!  I've even discovered how I to create ringtones so I can use music we already own.  I don't want to have to pay for tones I already have.

With all this being said...  I have been neglecting my poor weetle 'puter too!  And all the blogs that I normally follow like the best stalker ever.  I'm finally getting around to posting my Wednesday post today.  Eventually some time today I'm going to have to go through my photos for this week's Shades of Autumn photo challenge.  I haven't even taken the memory card out of my camera yet!

I think I need an intervention already!

Ain't this true y'all? =)

I had this EXACT pair of L.A. Gear sneakers!

I saw this last week on The Facebook.  That Dos Equis guy is almost as popular a spoof as Chuck Norris.

Ahhh!  here's another one!  I had one of these!  And I'm lovin' this tumblr...

SHARK!!!!  We might need a bigger boat...  =)
*found on Pinterest, but original pin doesn't credit original source*

Ok, ok... I promise this is the last one from this tumblr!  But who didn't have a Trapper Keeper?  I loved mine.  So convenient and I can't for the life of me figure out why my kids schools specifically state that they CAN'T use them.  Why school board, why???

I Am Now Obsessed

We upgraded our cell phones last night. Now usually I'm the one who is all OH MY GAWD IT'S NEW! I HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW, NOW, NOW! But not this time... It was my husband who just had to drive 35 miles back to town to get a new phone.

I pink puffy heart him for doing so! I got my first iPhone out of the deal. Before you get all excited though... it's the 3GS. Sure I would have loved to have the new 4S, but let's be serious here. The 3GS was FREE.

The first thing I took a photo of? My kids, of course!

And the Winner is...

Congratulations Susan!! I've sent you an email!

Thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway! Don't fret if you didn't win! You can still get $3 off tickets by using the code ERNIE during check out.

Shades of Autumn {Orange}

This week's challenge color is ORANGE.  I've been trying to keep my eye out for all the colors in the challenge and I was barely able to catch these orange leaves!  They are almost yellow so the trees should have gotten the memo about last week's challenge earlier.  It's been kind of breezy here the past few days so many of the trees have lost plenty of their leaves already.  It's gotten cold too and I'm not a fan.  Last week, it was beautiful with highs in the upper 70's/lower 80's.  This week?  Highs in the upper 40's.  Uh... no thank you!  Let's go back to last week's temperatures please!

On to the photos!

I Haz A Present For You

I'm not sure if my cat loves me enough to leave me little presents or if this is her equivalent to a bloody horses' head (a la Godfather)...

If you don't hear from me...  question the cat.

Autumn Photo Challenge {Yellow}

I don't get out of the house as much as I need to be getting out of the house.  I do hope to start making more plans to get out of the house more often though.  Except we only have one vehicle and my husband has to drive the carpool every other week with some co-workers.  While eco-friendly, it puts a damper on my running around.  This is all one big ol' excuse as to why I only have ONE measly picture for this week's challenge.  I couldn't find anything yellow.  Or the things that I did find weren't what I was looking for...  so here is my lonely yellow.

Eco Sprout Love!

Do you remember when I talked about my diaper stash?  No?  Well, you can find it here.

We've finally made the switch to all cloth, all the time.  I hadn't been having any issues with odors after switching from the All Free & Clear to Tide.  Except then... I did.  Rowan's diapers smelled fine coming out of the wash, but when she would pee... they smelled.  The only way to describe it would be to say that they smelled like wet cardboard.  I tried to strip them, but was getting the same results.  Just to clarify, stripping basically means to run the diapers through several HOT washes without detergent and /or soaking them overnight in blue Dawn or something else.  I had enough.

Everyone has their own method of cleaning their diapers.  There are what seems like a million different ways and a million types of detergents.  I searched and researched brands.  I happened upon Eco Sprout some place.  I wish I could remember where because I would send them a thank you note!

This detergent rocks!
Not only does this detergent come in smells that are AWESOME (Fresh Linen, Warm Vanilla Sugar, Lavendar Chamomile, and more), it's made in the USA.  Hand made by a family run company with eco-friendly, safe ingredients!  SOLD!  I ordered the 24 oz. bag of Warm Vanilla Sugar for $7.98.  Shipping on this size was $5.00.  I got it from them in TWO DAYS. I ordered on Friday and it arrived in my mailbox on Monday.  Granted... they are located in Illinois and I'm in Kentucky.  I suppose if you live halfway across the country, it may take longer.  My mail smelled so good!!  I'm sure the mail lady was wondering what was in my mail.

I followed the first time user instructions that come with the detergent.  I have a front loader HE machine so soaking diapers takes place in my bath tub.  Eco Sprout suggests soaking for 3-5 hours or, for better results, overnight.  I opted for the 3 hours because I was in a hurry to wash them.  When I was taking them out of the tub I noticed a semi-slimy feel to the water.  Eeeww... that stuff was on her diapers before the soak!  I ran them through only 1 hot wash/cold rinse cycle without detergent before doing a "regular" load on the white cycle/hot wash/cold rinse/extra rinse with 2 tbls of detergent, though the instructions clearly say two.  They came out smelling like... nothing!  A couple of days later I followed the regular wash routine and I thought all was well.

That night I put an extra insert into her diaper and put her to bed.  The next morning... the ammonia smell was almost overwhelming!  I didn't know what to do.  She'd not had any ammonia issues before that.  So...  I emailed Eco Sprout.  I got a response in just a couple of hours!  After a little Q&A with me, they told me what I was doing wrong and how to fix it.  I have hard water.  Apparently, what type of water you have is very important in the wash process.  I upped my amount of detergent from 2 tbls to 3 tbls and began using the longest and hottest setting on my washer, plus an extra rinse.  I've done two loads using this method and NO MORE SMELLS!  None.  Not even that wet cardboard smell.  I've even used their detergent to wash our other clothes and the results have been great.

I'm so glad to have found this brand!  I feel even better knowing that it's made with safe products and it's hand made.  Plus their customer support was phenomenal!!  If you don't want to go all in on the first try, they offer 2 oz. sample packs for only $1.75!  Check out their Facebook page here or their website here.

Sesame Street Live {Giveaway}

One!  Ah ah ah ah!  Two!  Ah ah ah ah!  Oh how I loved The Count when I was a kid!  And I always thought because Oscar lived in a trash can, why couldn't my room be messy too!  However, my all time favorite will always be Grover.  Without him, I would never have been able to tell what was near and what was far!

I'm happy to be able to share Sesame Street with my own kids.  I was even happier to learn that Sesame Street Live - "Elmo Makes Music" is coming to RiverPark Center in Owensboro, KY!  This larger-than-life, musical touring stage production features Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster, Bert and Ernie... and more.  Each performance is 90 minutes of singing, dancing, and audience participation, including an intermission of 15 minutes.  A perfect length for even young children!

The Story:  Jenny, the new music teacher, moves into town, but all of her instruments have gotten lost!  The Sesame Street characters come to her rescue and discover "instruments" they didn't know existed... rubber duckies, trash can lids, even their own laps!

There will be three (3) performances!  On Tuesday, November 15th at 7:00PM and on Wednesday, November 16th at 10:30AM and 7:00PM.  Ticket prices start at just $11, and are also offered at $14, $10, $25 (Gold Circle) and $50 (Sunny Seats**).  The "Kid's Matinee" (Wednesday, November 16th, 10:30AM) -- all seats are $8 for School/Daycare GROUPS of 10 or more (excluding Gold Circle and Sunny Seats).  There are additional group discounts available.  If you have a group of 10 or more, or would like to charge by phone, call 1-270-687-2787.

Tuesday Tunes That YOU GOTTA HEAR!

I haven't done a Tuesday Tunes in ahhhhh-while, but while browsing through my Google Reader this morning I came across Karmin Music.  OH EM GEE, y'all!  These guys are so awesome!  They have covers of popular songs, like the one I'm going to feature here, and originals that are beautiful and equally as awesome! The videos are super cute and funny too!

Oy... this is gonna hurt...

I've given up drinking cokes y'all.  Or sodas. Or pop. Or whatever you call it in your neck of the woods.  You know I found this fun little site on The Pinterest that shows what people generally call that sugary concoction across the country.  Click that image over there to be blow away... ok, so it's not that mind blowing, but it's a fun little do-dad.  Do you notice how most of the Southeast portion of our great nation calls it "Coke"?  I think, and this is just my opinion, that we call it "Coke" because the great Coca-Cola is based out of Atlanta, Georgia.  It's almost not possible to be more southern than Atlanta... unless you go to Savannah.

As of October 1st, no more carbonated beverage for me.  I've done this before, for Lent.  I'm not that religious though, just had a few friends who were and they challenged me to give up something for 40 days.  One of them gave up pork, the other gave up sweet tea.  I flat refuse to give up the sweet tea.  Or the coffee.  It's not the caffeine that I'm trying to avoid.  As a breastfeeding mom, I only have one cup of coffee a day, and on the average 2 glasses of sweet tea.  It's the empty calories.  One can has around 160 calories in it.  A 20 ounce bottle is usually around twice that.

No, the real reason is that while I might pretty darn close to my pre-pregnancy weight, I am far from my pre-pregnancy body.  And by "pre-pregnancy" I mean... oh about 12 years ago.  Let's face it, all three of these kids contributed to mess that is my butt, thighs, and belly.  I can't lay complete blame on them though.  Much as I'd like too.  I'm to blame for not exercising as I should.  Or eating as healthy either.  I have no will power.  If you put a piece of cake in front of me, I WILL eat it.  My stomach out votes my damn brain every time!

So I am on a mission of utmost importance.  Giving up cokes is only the first little step.  I must now do what seems damn near impossible and get myself motivated.  I'm not looking to lose weight, I'm looking to lose inches.  I want to be a better me.  Of course, I am always open to suggestions and ideas to make this a more pleasant experience.
