I have to admit that this is my favorite George Carlin quote.  This is what really got me thinking about where I was, who I was, where I was going in life, and how to get there.

"Religion easily has the best bullshit story of all time. Think about it. Religion has convinced people that there's an invisible man . . . living in the sky. Who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of 10 specific things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer, and burn, and scream, until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you. He loves you and he needs money."

  1. Ahhhhh...one of my favorites too...and so true... goes hand in hand with one of my favorite Simpsons quotes from Homer: "The bible is my favorite fiction book!"

And I have to say it again: The world is a far dimmer and less enlightened place without George Carlin....

  3. Mr. Meaty :)-- I agree. I think more people should just tell it like it is the way Carlin did.

Rubi -- Do NOT tell her you got that from me!!

  4. I loved listening to George Carlin. This is a great quote. It's my spirit that understands that there is "greatness" beyond what my mind can comprehend and religion, well, it's a major structure based on collective egos. It has it's place but it is not THE place!
